Community Gaming Grants – Aboriginal Capacity Support Program

The Aboriginal Capacity Support Program was established to increase Aboriginal access to community gaming grants programs provided by the Province of BC.  The program provides resources and services to member Friendship Centres and Aboriginal not-for-profit organizations across the province.  Services include:

Outreach

  • Regional and sector presentations on grant programs and gaming event licensing regimes
  • One-on-one exploratory meetings to determine organizational eligibility

Support

  • Program staff offers one on one support in determining program eligibility, application development (including application narratives and budgets for submission). 
  • Application pre-screening support prior to submitting grant/license application(s). 
  • Information and tips to help groups prepare their grant/license application considering the true value of their program, not just the cost.
  • Reconsideration support (Gaming Branch’s appeal process to have your application information/content clarified if you are declined or receive less money than you requested)
  • Gaming event licensing development/application

Compliance

  • Gaming grants and license reporting (information and support provided to organizations to report responsibly on funds received, revenue earned and use of funds) 
  • Audit compliance (information and support when needed, each group should expect to be audited)
  • The community gaming grants program is managed by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General:
  • Direct Access and Bingo Affiliation Certificates have merged to become the Community Gaming Grants Program, a single granting program.  Currently, Major Capital Project grants are suspended.
  • Where mandated, staff can provide compliance support in areas of remaining society in good standing with registrar of companies.  Advice and direct support when available.

Important intake period dates:

The Community Gaming Grant Program has different funding categories, which each category having a distinct intake period as follows:

Arts and Culture  (youth programs, and fairs, festivals and museums)

Apply from Feb 1 - May 31
Final notification: Aug 31

Sports for Youth and People with a Disability

Apply from Feb 1 - May 31
Final notification: Aug 31

Public Safety

Apply from Jul 1 - Aug 31
Final notification: Nov 30

Human and Social Services

Apply from Aug 1 - Nov 30
Final notification: Feb 28

Environment

Not available in fiscal year 2010/11.

NOTE:
Organizations that provide environmental awareness programs may be eligible for funding in the education community subsector of the human and social services sector.
