Select Standing Committee on Finance, Fall 2012

This year, marking our third annual lobby, members of our Friendship Centre family made unique submissions to the Select Standing Committee on Finance (SSCF), outlining the need for a long term, annualized $3.1 million investment in Friendship Centres.

The Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council also contributed submissions to the SSCF in a strong way, sharing stories of why Friendship Centres are important and essential to youth. To read their powerful submission click here.

Select Standing Committee on Finance update

We are pleased to announce we made the recommendations from the Select Standing Committee on Finance for a 2nd year in a row!  Please see PDF for full report.

Recommendation #47: "In conjunction with the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, develop a long-term capacity fund and implement a coordinated strategy for Aboriginal people living off reserve."

Select Standing Committee on Finance Presentations September-October 2011

 

In September/October, members of our Friendship Centre family have made their own unique verbal submissions to the Select Standing Committee on Finance, outlining the need for an Off-Reserve Aboriginal Strategy that includes Friendship Centres.

In early October, we were very pleased to hear that of your hard work and dedication to our lobby and civic engagement campaign is finally paying off.  On October 3rd, 2011,  the BC Legislature, the Honourable Steven Point, our Lieutenant Governor, read his Speech from the Throne (which typically announces the government priorities for the next year) and quoted some of the words that many of you have been voicing for so long.
