2012 Sport & Active Living Leadership for Aboriginal Youth (SALL)

The Aboriginal Sports Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council is accepting applications from Aboriginal youth (ages 14-24) to participate in the 2012 Sport & Active Living Leadership for Aboriginal Youth (SALL) program that will be launched as part of Gathering Our Voices Aboriginal Youth Conference, March 20-23, 2012 in Nanaimo, BC.

March 20-23, 2012

The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres &Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre are proud to host: Gathering Our Voices 2012 from March 20-23, 2012. The 10th Annual Aboriginal Youth Conference will be held in Nanaimo, British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw peoples at the Vancouver Island and Convention Centre, The Coast Bastion Hotel and The Port Theatre. This year’s theme is “A Generation on the Move”.

Aboriginal Youth aged 14-24 are invited to take part in a dynamic conference that will focus on many important issues including Health, Language, Culture, the Environment, Employment, Education, Sports and Recreation. Many workshops, cultural activities, an interactive Career and Education fair, evening entertainment and afternoon sport and recreation activities will be offered.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Founding members of the BCAAFC Elders Council and Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council produced a video to be presented at the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day conference in Toronto June 15, 2010 (hosted by the International Federation on Aging http://www.ifa-fiv.org and the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse http://www.inpea.net/weaad.html ).

BCAAFC has been piloting an Elder Abuse workshop and creating resources to enable the 23 Aboriginal Friendship Centres in BC to host workshops in their community.  Keep watching our website, the Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention resources will be posted here.  Feel free to contact the Elders Coordinators if you would like more information on the Elder Abuse workshop.
